Cautery sig. VS other condition removers
this has come up in several unrelated threads...so I thought i would start its own thread ....ok here is the facts
team wide condition removers
[card]cautery signet[/card]
[card]extinguish[/card]
[card]song of purification[/card]
[card]martyr[/card]
other condition removers to note (that removes all conditions)
[card]purge conditions[/card]
[card]purge signet[/card]
[card]restore condition[/card]
[card]purifying finale[/card]
[card]"it's just a flesh wound."[/card]
[card]draw conditions[/card]
and some other quick condition removers
[card]remedy signet[/card]
[card]plague touch[/card]
am exhaustive list can be found here
http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Condition
the two big hiters are martyr and cautery signet because of cost and effectiveness....
things to consider: cautery applies only burn to self while martyr may inflict conditions that cause more grief like daze
recharge times
casting times
energy cost
...in my humble opinion I would take cautery over martyr...
usually these skills are taken on supporting builds that do not take many skills from the profession... (such as the mesmer build in esoteric warriors GVG team build...available for viewing on official site) so with that in mind. it is better to have the reliable burning than risk daze and deep wound especially... and cautery can be followed up with ONE condition removing skill on self rather than martyr... and extinguish is just too expensive imho...
discussion...

Apparently nobody in top guilds agrees, according to last season's play-offs, because they all used extinguish and nobody used cautery signet.

You make me lol. Deep wound is meaningless on target that isn't getting spiked and daze is practically never used in gvg nor does it stop paragon. Most teams do just fine with martyr and throwing mend at the martyr guy every once in a while. I don't see multiple conditions transefed as a large drawback for martyr. But Cautery signet has real drawback, for instance 2 sec cast which begs for interrupts, 50% longer recharge, and martyr also profits from fast casting. 0.75 spell or shorter is hard to interrupt, 2 sec signet isn't.
You could argue that Cautery is better in PvE, but there it has to contend with Song of Purification.

as far as non elites go... sure extinguish is great when using a monk....but it IS high in cost..and cautery would be a foolish waist of a healers elite
but...like I said... these skills (martyr, cautery) are usually used on non monk/para primary builds...they have no base attribute... so cautery would do well on a non caster because they are tipically not targeted for interupts.
so I guess it depends on the build... like the mesmer example I gave martyr was the elite of choice...and it seems it works well in that situation...(with faster casting and all)
and im not sure which conditions you prefer...but i would take burn (one condition) over many conditions that may include deep wound which is never good to have on you...as it is effectively a 100hp hit to your bar (for a period of time..if you have 500 health)
here are the combos generally being used (non monk/para primary usually)
cautery sig+remedy sig = free condition removal for whole team including self
-3seconds total casting time -15seconds total recharge time
martyr+purge conditions = 10e condition removal for whole team including self
-1.25sec total casting time -20 seconds total recharge time
this is the way I see it...

on my monk/para i used remedy signet for the last nf mission, elite was light of deliverance.
when the floor zaps you you get dazed, i used remedy sig to remove that
i do wonder how that remedy sig would combine with, http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Wearying_Spear as in is it worth it :$

I use Plague Sending with Cautery Signet, likewise with "It's just a Flesh Wound!" if I used that.
However, if your your party's healer/protector you'd probably do better to go with Restore Condition or something else.

Spura, in last season's playoffs no one ran extinguish because it wasn't core/nf.
However, they would have, because it's great on an ele with prodigy, is extremely efficient, and isn't elite, which is why it's way better than cautery sig. Cautery sig is good in one place: versus abaddon. Everywhere else, it's bulky and ties up an elite.
